The Reardon Law Firm is pleased to report the settlement of a wrongful death claim for $1 million, the full amount of insurance coverage available. The case involved a 73-year-old grandmother who was driving her 25-year-old granddaughter to Bradley Airport. Their vehicle came to a stop at the intersection of East Aurora Street and Route 73 in Waterbury, Connecticut in the far-left lane, which is a left turn only lane and is controlled by a turn arrow. Their vehicle had a red arrow and, nonetheless, the grandmother proceeded through the intersection attempting to make a left hand turn against the red arrow. While making the turn, a landscaping truck drove through the intersection at a high rate of speed (64 mph in a 40 mph zone) and struck the right-side passenger compartment of the car, pushing it across the intersection into a guard rail. Both women were killed in the collision. The 25-year-old passenger brought claims against the truck driver and landscaping company. Attorney Joe Barnes resolved the case for $1 million, the full amount of insurance coverage available.
