The Estate of a Ledyard man who died at Backus Hospital after a routine endoscopy to remove a piece of chicken bone from his throat has settled its claim against various Defendants for $2.65 million. The patient was admitted for a procedure after he felt the item in his throat. During recovery, despite being on anti-coagulant medication, he was given multiple additional anti-coagulants, which thinned his blood to the point that he suffered a massive brain bleed and died. Attorney Kelly E. Reardon represented the family and negotiated the settlement before trial.
