The Reardon Law Firm Settles “Baby Dylan” Case Against Connecticut Department Of Children And Families For $12 Million

The Reardon Law Firm, a New London-based law firm representing plaintiffs in personal injury and wrongful death claims, is pleased to report that it has settled a personal injury case brought on behalf of “Baby Dylan,” a boy who was abused while in DCF custody, for $12 million. The settlement with the State of Connecticut, reached in January and approved by the legislature earlier this month, is the largest single personal injury settlement paid by the State in Connecticut history for a single plaintiff.

“Baby Dylan” was placed into a foster family by DCF when he was 13-months old. While in the custody of DCF, he was horrifically abused for a period of months, resulting in injuries that continue to impact him today. The placement was made despite DCF knowing that the selected foster mother, Crystal Magee, was the subject of multiple prior allegations of abuse and neglect, that allegations of abuse and neglect as to her own son had been substantiated, that she had a criminal history, including a prior conviction for assault, and that she had no employment income at all. “Baby Dylan’s” adoptive parents, who have taken him into their home and provided loving care for years, will now be able to ensure that he is properly cared for and treated for the rest of his life with the funds being placed into a trust for his benefit.

The injuries suffered by “Baby Dylan,” now 8-years-old, included broken bones, loss of muscle tone due to malnutrition, bruising, a retinal hemorrhage, a bald spot on the back of his head and the inability to walk or talk or feed himself. The Reardon Law Firm filed a lawsuit on behalf of the boy in 2020 after the case had been pending in the Claims Commission for years.
