“Sexual abuse survivors received payments from a $31 million settlement with the Diocese of Norwich this week … In all, more than 150 survivors were set to receive the payments, said attorney Kelly Reardon, who represents some 40 of the survivors.
Mostly boys, but some girls, were victims of priests and others associated with the diocese, including a monk whose actions spurred more than half the claims, Reardon said. The assaults happened decades ago.
‘I’m just relieved for them,’ Reardon said of her clients.
‘The money is not nearly enough to remedy what occurred,’ she said, but ‘at least this money is assisting them to be able to close this chapter and be able to move forward without this hanging over their heads.’”
